Gallipoli Campaign Map: Landings and Key Ground

Gallipoli campaign map guide explains the main 1915 landing areas, ridges, August offensive directions, and how historical maps differ from game layouts.

Gallipoli campaign map searches usually need the peninsula, the April landing zones, and the high ground that shaped later operations. Cape Helles lay at the southern end, Anzac Cove on the western coast, and Suvla Bay farther north. The Sari Bair range and heights including Hill 971, Hill Q, and Chunuk Bair dominated movement inland. A single map cannot accurately show every phase without a date and purpose.

April Landing Areas

British and French forces landed around Cape Helles, while the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed on the western side near Anzac Cove. Inland from Anzac, gullies, spurs, and ridges interrupted the planned advance. Ottoman defenders used the high ground to contest movement away from the beach. The landing layer should be read before later trench lines are added.

August Offensive Direction

The August operations involved Suvla and renewed attempts toward the Sari Bair heights. Hill 971, Hill Q, and Chunuk Bair help orient the direction of effort. A map from one day may show positions that changed by another stage of the offensive. The National Army Museum chronology should be used beside the geographic layer.

Choose the Right Historical Map

The Australian War Memorial collection includes landing, trench, operations, artillery, and Turkish maps. Each category answers a different question about movement, defenses, or fire support. Its research guide also explains scale and catalog searching. Combining layers is useful only when their dates and purposes remain visible.

Game Map Clarification

The game's battlefields are inspired by historical locations but altered for balance and pacing. They are not an exact campaign map or a one-to-one reconstruction of troop movement. Objective routes cannot be used as documentary evidence. This page keeps historical cartography and playable layouts separate.
